What is Diabetic Ketoacidosis? (Body Produces Excess Blood)

What is Diabetic Ketoacidosis? (Body Produces Excess Blood) – Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, and Prevention. Learn more:

Diabetic Ketoacidosis DKA (diabetic acidosis) is a condition whereby the body produces ketones or blood sugar acids as a result of low insulin production. Insulin is very important because it helps the body absorb sugar in the form of glucose which provides energy for the body.

People with type 1 diabetes are at a higher risk of suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Signs and symptoms of the condition include: getting thirsty often, feeling nauseated, vomiting, a fruity smell from the mouth and confusion, among others. When there is not enough insulin to help the body absorb glucose you are at risk of suffering from the condition. The body starts to break down fat and muscle to provide the energy it requires. In the process, it produces acids which are known as ketones.

The ketones build up in the bloodstream thus causing Diabetic Ketoacidosis. There are two main triggers of the condition: an illness and problematic insulin therapy. Some illnesses cause the body to produce hormones that prevent insulin from performing its function. Diseases like Pneumonia can cause the production of cortisol and adrenaline which counters the work of insulin in the body.
