I love you guy’s 10 minute tidbits. You guys make a good team. I look forward to more of them. One of the things about taking care of DKA patients is that they are labor intensive at first and you spend a lot of time managing their blood sugar, electrolytes and fluid. Once they are transition to SQ insulin and eating you are like o.k. I am done. No not at all. This has actually bite me in the butt. I had a patient that I worked really hard to get her all noramlized and the next day I came back she is on SQ insulin and eating then I had another patient that was not doing so hot. I was like o.k. she’s good I will focus on the sick guy. Well guess what her blood sugar came back up and and her gap reopened. Let that be a lesson for me. Any how when will you guys have a life chat with question and answer section? I can’t wait.
mei ling Chan I completely agree! So labor intensive & can easily go back into DKA during transition phase! I need to work up the courage to do a live session! I’ll chat with Joel about it!
Nausea vomiting and abdominal pain is also a presenting symptoms which gets better as anion gap improves
I’m type 2 and had dka. It’s horrible. I don’t understand it.
