Dr. Sribhargava Natesh from Nethra Eye Hospital, Bangalore talks about Diabetic Retinopathy. High blood sugar level in a person's body can cause damage to the Retina causing Diabetic Retinopathy. In this disease the blood vessels of Retina can swell or leak, there can be an abnormal growth of new blood vessels on the Retina, all these changes may steal one's vision.
Doctor Natesh explains the symptoms of the disease saying it is a silent complication and advises diabetic patients to go for routine examination and keep a check on their Diet, cholesterol levels and Hypertension. He also discusses several cures and treatments for people at different stages of the disease. He further compares the optic nerve of a healthy person with the one of a diabetic person showing the importance of a timely Laser Operation.
