Diabetic retinopathy, or DR, is a blinding eye disease that can affect more than 415 million diabetic patients worldwide, including more than 29 million people in the US. Vision loss in these patients is preventable, if diagnosed early. But eye care professionals cannot keep pace with the demand for annual screening.
