Diabetic retinopathy (Sugar se Nazar ki Kamzori) takes place when small blood vessels in the retina tend to multiply in number, swell in size and reach a point where they burst and all the fluid along with blood leaks into the retina. As a result, this distorts vision and advances to scarring, wound, and loss of cells in the retina. This takes place on the surface of the retina and appears as dark red spots that cause blurry vision.
In this video, Dr. Huma Kayani explains diabetic retinopathy is consistent for a very long time it may lead to a fatal disease known as diabetic macular edema. DME can take place at any point in the entire lifetime if a person has chronic or persistent diabetes.
The macula is the part of the retina where fluid (edema) builds up due to chronic diabetic neuropathy. It helps with normal center vision.
What are the causes, symptoms, and risk factors of Diabetic Retinopathy?
Persistent high blood sugar levels from diabetes are the main cause of Diabetic retinopathy. People with all types of diabetes (type 1, type 2, and gestational), Pregnant women suffering from Gestational diabetes, and Age-related symptoms along with fluctuating dark spots (of blood) known as hemorrhages are the most common symptoms of retinopathy.
Primarily, there is a blurry vision but with time it can lead to hemorrhages and result in complete loss of vision (blindness)
